BEES’ chief Shaun Annetts admitted his players have given him a massive boost following their Dorset Senior Trophy agony last week.

Since losing to Merley Cobham Sports 4-3 in their cup climax, Bridport Reserves have gone on a run of three wins on the bounce in the Dorset Premier League, scoring a total of 13 goals in the process.

With Annetts having to dust off his goalkeeping gloves on Saturday after having no regular gloveman to call on, his side hammered nine-man Cranborne 6-0.

And, with the boss then back on the sideline, Bridport followed that result up with a 4-1 triumph at home to Wareham Rangers on Monday.

Chris Herbst scored twice for the Bees against Wareham, with goals also coming from Gary Bulman and Robin Jones. Aaron Merredew netted in reply for Wareham.

On his side’s promising run of form, Annetts told Echosport: “Since the disappointment of last week it has been a decent period for us and I have had a decent reaction form the players.

“I thought that I might find it difficult to rally the troops and get them motivated to play these last league games but that’s been far from the reality.

“The players have been very positive, very keen and it’s given me a massive boost to be honest.

“The last three games have been very good.”

Annetts also explained the situation which meant he stepped back between the sticks against the Cranes.

“Kieran Park, the youth team keeper, had hurt his calf against Westland,” he added.

“I phoned around and could not get anyone else, so I donned the gloves myself and thoroughly enjoyed it to be honest.

“It was nice to be involved and I thought my playing days were over, so from that respect it was quite nice.

“I would still love to be playing regularly if I could but age has caught up. I am just grateful that I wasn’t called on particularly.”

There is no let-up in fixtures for Annetts’ men as they are set to host Merley Cobham Sports at St Mary’s Field this evening (7.45pm).

Giving his thoughts on that game, he added: “I am trying to drive the lads on and we have crept up a few places now.

“I am very keen to get more points on the board so we will be doing our best to get a result.”

n Elsewhere in the division, Marco Nott's Balti Sports

drew 1-1 with Mere Town on Saturday.

Netting for the home side in the draw was Daniel Sansom.
