BRIDPORT & West Dorset Golf Club hosted a trio of competitions over the week with good contests all round.

Men’s Section

THE Sunday competition was the RNLI Medal & Driveguard Qualifier.

It was a sunny if chilly morning and there were 61 starters.

The conditions produced some fine scores especially those that topped Divisions Two and Three.

The overall winning score of the day was carded by Patrick Harper in Division Two and his nett 65 just pipped another excellent score, that of Robin Ormsby who topped Division Three with a nett 66. Matt Gale headed Division One with a nett 70.

RESULTS

Division One: 1 Matt Gale 79-9=70, 2 (acb) Mike Savage 80-9=71, Ted Stordy 83-12=71.

Division Two: 1 Patrick Harper 83-18=65, 2 Steve Cleal 87-17=70, 3 Martin Drennan 84-13=71.

Division Three: 1 Robin Ormsby 85-19=66, 2 (acb) Rod Condliffe 89-20=69, 3 Terry Cleal 90-21=69.

  • Harper had his handicap cut by two shots, Drennan, Ormsby, Condliffe & Cleal by one.

Veterans' Section

THE BILL Caddy Putter was the trophy the veterans were competing for on Thursday and 56 players turned out on a fine morning with very little breeze to contend with. The format was a medal off the white tees and the man to walk off with the trophy came from Division Two.

The winner was Malcolm Peach and he was also the only man carding a sub 70 score and his nett 67 was three shots clear of his nearest rival.

That man was Jimmy Gbadebo and his nett 70 placed him top of Division One, one shot better than veterans' captain Keith

Brown.

Division One: 1 Jimmy Gbadebo 82-12=70, 2 Keith Brown 84-13=71, 3 (acb) Angus Nicoll 89-16=73, 4 (acb) Peter Marshall 82-9=73.

Division Two: 1 Malcolm Peach 88-21=67, 2 Ian Perry 92-21=71, 3 Roy Mathisen 96-23=73, 4 (acb) Colin Clark 98-24=74.

  • Peach had his playing handicap cut by one shot.

Ladies’ Section

TUESDAY saw a non-qualifying Stableford and the second round of the 125 trophy competition, writes Di Neal.

First was captain Pat Baldwin with 33 points followed by Liz Thompson on 31, third was Margaret Thompson 30. Julie Oliver and Sue Winkle also had 30 points and on countback were fourth and fifth respectively.

Marion Hurley and Sue Walsh played in the second round of the Daily Mail Foursomes and were successful in winning over Weymouth meaning they progressed to the next round. A friendly played against Lyme Regis also resulted in a win for Bridport.
