HAMWORTHY REC 5

BRIDPORT RESERVES 0

BRIDPORT Reserves’ chief Shaun Annetts had “no complaints” about his side’s performance after they were comfortably beaten 5-0 at Hamworthy Recreation.

With the Bees’ first team down to the bare bones, the reserves were also stretched and fielded a number of players from the Bridport Youth set-up against an experienced Rec outfit at Magna Road.

And while manager Annetts admitted his young charges “did me proud” on the day, they were powerless to prevent their hosts dominating, especially in the second period.

“Hamworthy are a good team and, at their own place, it was always going to be a tough ask,” said the Bees’ boss.

“I have no complaints. I was disappointed against Sherborne but I am not disappointed about Saturday.

“Nobody let me down, they gave their all and we were just beaten by a side that was better than us on the day.

“We probably had six or seven under-17s having to play. They are all good lads and I am very happy to have them involved but I’m probably being asked to play too many at the same time.

“We also lost Harry Fleet in the first half, who has been outstanding for me all season. He went off with a hamstring injury after about 30 minutes.”

Only trailing 1-0 at the interval through a strike from Rec’s Martin Warren, the Bees did have chances to go in level before the break. Sam Day skimmed the top of the bar with a free-kick and Josh Baker had a well-struck shot that whistled past a post.

But Rec showed their class in the second half and struck no fewer than four more times to comfortably see off the Bridport challenge. Jamie Moores notched a brace for the hosts, Warren added another and Max Wilcock also found the net.

But eager to keep upbeat, Annetts added: “The young lads did me proud.

“In the first half I was very pleased and in the second half we were beaten by a better side but I have nothing but praise and admiration for them.

“It was just not enough on the day to give Hamworthy a game. It was just a little bit too much too soon really.

“Hamworthy were a side that clearly knew what they were doing and had some good players. We were a bit inexperienced for that game but we will see how we go and do our best for the remaining fixtures.”
