TREVOR Senior has announced he will step down from his role as Bridport manager at the end of the season.

The Bees’ chief, who has had two separate spells in charge at St Mary’s Field, also took the time to thank everyone connected with the club and said “there are some great people there”.

Announcing his departure, Senior told Echosport: “I had been thinking about it for a while on and off and I feel the time is right now.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time there having had around 10 or 11 years in two spells.

“I am not leaving on bad terms. I have loved it at Bridport and there are some great people there.

“I will still give it everything I have got until the end of the season and I have nothing but praise for the club. They have been good to me for seven years and three or four before that, I would like to thank everybody for their support.”

Explaining his reasons for standing down as Bridport chief, the former Dorchester Town and Reading star added: “I think with the games being postponed on a Saturday it’s messed this season up. It’s not been a true season.

“It just made me think ‘Did I miss it that much on a Saturday?’ And I didn’t really.

“As time goes on, the game has changed.

“I was finding that it was hard to keep people happy when you have a full squad, which was playing on my mind a lot, and when you haven’t got a full squad, it’s hard to get players.

“A few things that have happened over the last couple of weeks tipped the balance and had made me think that now is the time to give someone else a chance.

“A fresh face in the dressing room might be what’s needed.”
