FOUR Colfox teams travelled to Millfield School to compete in round one of the English Schools Cup.

Colfox were drawn against schools from Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire in what is regarded as one of the highest standard regions in the country.

The inter boys were captained by Tom Crabtree and they were looking to repeat the performance of the team last year by reaching the national final.

Crabtree led the team home and was closely followed by the impressive Dan Elliott and then Manny Cox and James Cox in third and fourth place.

Harry Tompkins and Brian Robertshaw completed the team score and secured the fourth consecutive win at this stage for the school’s inter-boys team.

The junior boys then looked to repeat their previous performance and were led off by the captain Euan Pollock, who also finished as the team's best performer.

He was closely followed by Fin Cauldwell, who was competing in his first race for the school as a Year Seven.

Harry Burwood, Adam Elliott, Barney Sutcliffe and Tom Kilcoyne made up the final places and made sure the team qualified for round two in third place.

The inter girls, captained by Sydney March, were very confident going into the race having qualified as juniors for the past two years.

The race however, was very tough and it was a nervous wait for the team of Olivia Willmore, Dulcie Gatehouse, Hannah Bowell, Bronwyn Wright and Rosie Hart.

The team were given third place and they can look forward to another appearance in round two.

The final race involved Colfox’s most inexperienced team with the junior girls captained by Maddy Herbert.

This turned out to be a very exciting race and the team of Ellen Pearce, Flick Ackerman, May Cornwell, Daisy Parsons and Amelia Brown were very unfortunate to miss out on round two by just three points.

Round two of the competition takes place at Leweston School on Saturday, November 7.
