IT was a fine and sunny day for the men’s Sunday stableford, with a field of more than 60 taking part.

Gary Edwards topped Division One with a modest winning score of 32 points, while Mike Savage was one behind to finish as runner-up after countback.

Eleven men came in with higher scores in the two lower divisions and a more familiar winning score came from Division Two, where Martin Jones carded 38 points for the top score of the day.

Lawrence Turner, after countback, claimed Division Three honours with 36 points.

RESULTS

Division One: 1 Gary Edwards (10) 32pts, 2 (acb) Mike Savage (8) 31pts, 3 Mike Vincent (12) 31pts.

Division Two: 1 Martin Jones (15) 38pts, 2 (acb) Jon Legg-Bagg (13) 34pts, 3 (acb) Roger Galpin (15) 34pts.

Division Three: 1 (acb) Lawrence Turner (20) 36pts, 2 Andrew Reichter (21) 36pts, 3 Terry Kearley (20) 35pts.

Saturday’s Junior Medal was won by Tom Hunt with a score of 86-12=74. In second place was Josh Wilkinson with 101-26=75.

Veterans' Section

THE veterans’ Thursday competition was the Bill Caddy Putter, a medal off the white tees.

The best scores came from Division One and Peter Davies topped those standings with a nett 67 which earned him the prize.

The runner-up in Division One was Peter Marshall with a nett 69.

The best score in Division Two was a nett 72 and this was carded by two players. John Pritchard took the top spot from Stuart Prince after countback.

RESULTS

Division One: 1 Peter Davies 87-20=67, 2 Peter Marshall 79-10=69, 3 Richard Fox 90-19=71.

Division Two: 1 (acb) John Pritchard 95-23=72, 2 Stuart Prince 93-21=72, 3 (acb) Peter Dinham 101-28=73, 4 Mick Kelson 97-24=73.

Peter Davies had his handicap cut by two strokes.

Match results: Ashley Wood 4 Bridport 2, Bridport 3 Weymouth 3.

Ladies’ Section

A FIELD of 23 ladies played the annual RNLI Stableford, writes Di Neal.

With 38 points the winner was Marilyn Wilson.

In second place with 34 points was Liz Thompson, and Di Loving claimed third with 33.

A total of £50 was collected for the RNLI.

The match against the veterans’ section also took place with the ladies triumphing for the first time in 18 years.
