LYME REGIS 6 PINHOE 1

LYME Regis came from behind to comfortably see off struggling Pinhoe, as they struck no fewer than six times at Davey Fort.

After a defensive lapse saw the Seasiders fall behind after 30 minutes against the Devon and Exeter League Division Three’s bottom club, a quick-fire double from Mark Bailey brought the hosts back in the ascendancy before the break.

From there, manager Tim Edwards saw his side put on a clinical display in the second period.

Bailey completed his hat-trick, along with goals for Joe Bond, Ben Whittington and substitute Lee Cleal.

“The first half we didn’t set out as we wanted to, we had a game plan and we were made to pay for not sticking to it in the first 45 minutes,” said Lyme boss Edwards.

“But it was one of those games where they are at the bottom of the league and you always feel quite comfortable. Once we went in front we were fairly comfortable for the rest of the game.

“We played much better stuff in the second half, we tried to keep the ball out of the mud and Mark was class in the middle.”

The win puts Lyme third in the division, after fellow promotion hopefuls Chagford came undone against Clyst Valley 2nds last weekend.

Lyme will now turn their attentions to a trip to Exmouth Amateurs Seconds on Saturday (3pm).

Skipper Matt Laing is unavailable, but Dom Rowe is expected to return to the squad.
