BEES’ chief Trevor Senior is determined not to let the final months of their campaign end with a whimper, as Bridport travel to Cadbury Heath in league action on Saturday (3pm).

The St Mary’s Field outfit, who are without a win in their last five outings in all competitions, squandered their final chance of silverware last weekend when they crashed out of the Les Phillips cup at the hands of Willand Rovers.

And while initial hopes of a top-eight finish in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division may also now be slightly out of his side’s reach, manager Senior is eager to ensure they don’t switch off early.

He said: “We don’t want the season to peter out after the Willand game. We need to take the positives from it because we played well.

“Everything was going pretty well up until the end of November but we have come unstuck a little bit and lost our way.

“We were looking good for a top-eight finish but now we are looking at mid table.

“The pitches should start getting firmer now which should suit us, hopefully we can carry on pushing towards the end of the season.”

The Bees only hosted Cadbury Heath in the league earlier this month and had to settle for a point after conceding a late equaliser.

But Senior realises the Bristol-based club, who currently lie five points below Bridport, will be a different proposition away from home.

“We obviously played Cadbury Heath recently and we know what they are about,” he added.

“They are usually a decent side and I’m surprised they are down so low really.

“They have a different type of ground with a slight slope on it, we will have to keep nice and compact. It is always a tough place to go.

“It was a fairly even game last time, but we have a few carrying knocks going into it.”

Chris Senior (hamstring), Shave Evans (hip) and Matt Morley (groin) have all picked up slight niggles and will be monitored and skipper Ryan Hayter has been playing with a back injury over the last few weeks.

But Adam Symes should now be fully fit to feature and Warren Byerley is likely to be available after work commitments kept him out of last weekend’s defeat against Willand.

Senior also revealed that influential striker Ryan Dovell is set to see a specialist on his ongoing knee problem on February 26.
