BRIDPORT men ended their Wessex League programme with another brilliant performance in beating Moonfleet 81-71.

Picking up 12 of the 16 available points, Dave Roberts, Keith Jenkins, Phil Hedges and Bob Taylor enjoyed a superb 26-16 triumph at Weymouth, with Barry Mapson, Brian Walsh, Martin Grier and Chris Thorne losing a last-end shoot-out 17-16.

At home, Max Dare, Brian Galpin, Brian Rumble and Ivor Parker won 27-13, while Mel Griffiths, Mike Craddock, Paul Tibble and Brian Conisbee went down 25-12.

Spokesperson Brian Baker said: “This is the club’s highest finish in this prestigious league.

“Great credit must go to captain Chris Thorne, who has had to reshape the side from last season after the loss of several players.”

Pamela Daters, Lyn Craddock, Ann Turtell and Margaret Pestelle were the stars for the ladies in the County League against the Dolphin (Poole).

They came from 11-10 down to win 24-6 for six of the eight points available.

Francis Hewett, Ann Parkins, Laura Taylor and Pat Cornick just missed out on the final two points as their opponents finished 2-2 to win 22-17.

At Bournemouth, Craddock, Millie Meech, Taylor and Cornick had a fine 22-16 success, a late six count seeing them home for another two points.

Captain Mel Griffiths has been in great form for Bridport’s B team in the Purbeck Trophy League, and he, Chris Everest and Brian Walsh won 17-13 at Bournemouth for six points.

Mapson, Craddock and Peter Hunt did their bit for the overall win, though a late five count saw them lose 16-14.

With Baker and Mike Higman, Griffiths was again in inspirational form to secure a point against Wellworthy (13-13).
