SWANAGE & WAREHAM II 34 BRIDPORT 0

BRIDPORT were soundly beaten by the Swans for the second time this season at Bestwall.

A 50-3 drubbing at the Brewery Field in October was followed by an equally emphatic reverse on the weekend.

The Blues, missing several key players and fielding a slightly makeshift team for the Dorset & Wilts Two South match, gave the hosts a decent contest despite the final scoreline.

The Swans had nearly all the possession and territory in the first half and were rewarded with two converted tries and a penalty for a 17-0 lead.

Bridport’s wholehearted defence was summed up by the efforts of Jason Kidd, who was standing in at fly-half.

Swanage & Wareham conceded a number of penalties but the only kickable one was missed by the visitors, while the few attacks launched by the Blues came to nothing.

The second half mirrored the first, with the hosts adding a further 17 points via three tries, one of which was converted.

Unsurprisingly, given that they were continually on the back foot, Bridport were guilty of missing a few tackles towards the end, but at no time did they give up.

Only once or twice did they have a sniff of the opposition’s try line, but the Swans’ defence was solid and the attacks were snuffed out.

This Saturday, Weymouth & Portland, who had a walkover against North Dorset Thirds last weekend, are the visitors to Bridport.

  • Dorchester had a walkover against Corsham in Southern Counties South.
