WITH his side sitting second in their division just three points off top spot, it is no surprise that Lyme Regis boss Tim Edwards doesn’t have any regrets over his club’s decision to switch leagues last summer.

The Seasiders are looking good bets for promotion in their first season as a Devon & Exeter League outfit after a smooth transition from the Perry Street & District League.

And Edwards is confident they can keep the good times rolling.

“I’ve got no regrets at all about moving leagues,” he said. “If we finish in the top two we are looking at promotion and climbing up the ladder.

“We’re confident we can do it, especially after the 2-2 draw with Henry’s Cronies a few weeks ago.

“They are the best side in the division and we more than matched them, and that performance has given us a confidence boost for the rest of the season.”

He added: “I’m happy with where we are. It’s our first season in a different league and we have been getting used to it.

“The league is a bit similar to the Perry Street with three or four teams that are stronger than the rest.

“You can go a few weeks without being tested too much and then face a side where you’ve got to do all you can to win.”

Edwards in particular has been impressed with the form of goal machine Joe Bond and the mark made by teenagers Declan Ellis, Callum Larcombe and Alfie Bellworthy.

After last weekend’s division three game against Thorverton Reserves was postponed, Edwards is hoping Saturday’s home clash with bottom club Pinhoe (2.15pm) beats the weather to give his troops the chance to start 2015 on the right footing.

Elsewhere, in the Perry Street Premier Division, Lyme’s reserves go to Combe Reserves and Beaminster host Ilminster Colts.

Waytown Hounds make the trip to Crewkerne Rangers in Division Two (all 2pm).
