THE quartet of Kevin Jones, Graham Blunden, Ted Stordy and Mike Chivers were the clear winners of the men’s Turkey Trot Texas Scramble at Bridport Golf & Country Club.

Each of the 20 four-man teams taking part played off one-tenth of their combined handicaps.

The winning team compiled a total of 62-4.2=57.8, while in second place were Bob Harding, Dave Travers, Toby Eeles and Barry O’Mahony who scored 66-5.2=60.8.

Veterans’ Section

THE weather forecast put some players off entering the veterans’ three-ball betterball Team Medal, but 51 players still took to the course.

Every one of the top three teams managed scores in the 60s, with the team of Jimmy Gbadebo (13), Richard Fox (19) and Colin Clark (23) finishing first by two shots (nett 67).

In second place, after countback, were veterans’ captain Keith Brown (13), Dave Rendell (21) and Robert Froy (28) with a nett 69.

Third were Richard Lomax (13), Dave Buckland (21) and Brian Osborne (23), also with 69.

Captains’ Drive-in

AROUND 90 members attended the Captains’ Drive-in to see new club captain Andy Dennis, ladies’ captain Liz Thompson and veterans’ captain Keith Brown drive off on the 18th hole.

There was a competition to mark where the three balls landed and this was won by Martin Jones, Stuart Prince and Roger Pollock.

This was followed by a Texas Scramble, featuring teams of four with at least one lady, which was won by Martin Drennan, Sue Walsh, Chris Bodycombe and Peter Marshall.

Andy Dennis and Liz Thompson decided to combine their two charities for the coming year. These are the Acorns Children’s Hospice and Julia’s House respectively.

Acorns Children’s Hospice offers a network of specialist palliative care and support to children and young people who have life limiting or life threatening illnesses, as well as their families.

Ladies’ Section

IT was another bitterly cold Tuesday for the ladies, who were playing a foursomes competition over 14 holes prior to their Christmas lunch festivities, writes Lyn Hargrave.

There were some who didn’t play but for the most part, all who signed up did, buoyed by the promise of a good lunch, a glass of wine and a sing- song.
