BITTON 1 BRIDPORT 2

GOALS from Shane Evans and Ryan Dovell saw Bridport come from behind to clinch a third successive win in all competitions.

With next weekend off, Bees’ boss Trevor Senior was keen for his side to go into their break from action on a high – and they did just that.

However, the visitors, who lost Jamie Symes to a knee injury midway through the first half, made a sluggish start and it was the home team that went in front when Bridport gave the ball away in midfield.

Bees’ skipper Ryan Hayter then had to make an important block to stop Bitton from doubling their advantage.

That seemed to wake Bridport and Evans came up with the equaliser before the interval.

Awarded a free-kick five yards outside the Bitton box, Evans stepped up and rifled the ball in via the keeper’s hand and the crossbar.

Senior’s charges could well have led going into half-time if Warren Byerley, Jamie Filkins and Chris Clarke had been able to make more of their opportunities.

The rampaging runs of Matt Morley came to the fore in the second period and the Bees had a couple of shouts for penalties turned down by the referee.

But the visitors did go 2-1 up when an Evans set-piece found the head of Dovell and he diverted the ball into the far corner of the net.

Bridport saw out the remainder of the game to secure back-to-back wins in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

“That’s three wins on the trot for us in league and cup, and there’s a real buzz about the place,” said Senior.

“We’ve got a break now and if we hadn’t got three points more teams would have been able to catch up with us.

“There are games this season we should have won but to be sixth at this stage is great.

“The squad is looking strong at the moment and everyone is enjoying it.

“The break gives us a chance to regroup and get ready for our next game against Bristol Manor Farm, which is now at home on October 25.”
