THE men’s three-man Team Open was held on Sunday and the event attracted 17 teams from 10 clubs.

This was a medal competition off ¾ handicap with two of the three scores to count.

Bridport trio Nick Franks, Roy Gill and Martin Jones won with a score of 132.

Eight shots back was the Yeovil team of Dean Kirkland, Gary Earl and Terry Francis (140).

Close behind with a score of 141 were George Brown, Mike Thompson and Geoff Hunt, while Jon Legg-Bagg, Derek Christ-ison and Andrew Harrison finished fourth (143) – both teams also represented Bridport.

Nearest the pin on the sixth hole was Jim Spiller from Knighton Heath and on the 18th it was Harrison.

Veterans’ Section

THE Thursday competition was the Over-60s’ Championship, a four-ball betterball Stableford which includes non-veteran club members.

A total of 33 two-man teams competed and the favourable conditions, plus a full handicap allowance, produced a lot of good scores.

Twelve teams carded scores in the 40s with the top two both scoring 46 points.

The winning team after countback was that of Dave Buckland and Gil Roberts, while the runners-up were Marcus Beresford and Robert Langran – all four are veteran club members.

  • Nearest the pin prizes were won by Brian Fearon on the sixth and Glyn Peach on the 18th.

Ladies’ Section

THIS week’s competition was the September Medal and LGU Brooch played on Saturday and Tuesday, writes Rosemary Shepherd.

All entry money is donated to the LGU/Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity.

Thirty women played in perfect conditions as the sun shone and there was very little wind.

  • Congratulations to Sue Winkle who lowered her handicap by two shots to 25. Four ladies played a Stableford and the winner was Sandy Moger with 27 points.
