SEATON brothers Chris and Nick Dodge finished second overall in the Cowes to Torquay Race.

In Country and Coast Homes Ltd offshore powerboat Smokin’ Aces, the duo were runners-up to Peter Dredge and Simon Powell (Vector Martini Racing).

The race has long been recognised as one of the sport’s toughest and longest challenges, and comparisons have been made to motorsport events such as Le Mans and the Indy 500.

With entrants from all over Europe and the USA there was a lot of high-class competition at the event, and it was a close finish after three hours of racing with just a couple of minutes between them and the first place pair.

The event is a long-distance race run over 180 nautical miles, and on this occasion there were rough conditions off Portland Bill and fairly smooth seas in Torbay as boats reached speeds of around 100mph.
