WILLIAM and Jenny Stazicker have competed in the UK Junior Field Archery Championships in Cumbria.

The event involved competing over two days with 24 targets each day on a forested river valley course, with a huge variety of challenging shots at both marked and unmarked distances.

William showed the progress he has made since specialising in field archery by claiming both the under-15 barebow and the overall boys’ barebow trophies, setting new county records in the process.

He was part of the English team that placed second to Northern Ireland in the Home Nations competition.

Jenny also shot very well, placing second in the under-18s girls’ barebow event, with a new county record. Daniel Wilkinson and Reu-ben Kingston competed in the Junior National Championships at Lilleshall.

Both were just outside the medal places, but shot well, setting personal best scores, including two new county records. Kingston competed in the South West Regional Championships at Burnham-on-Sea, winning the under-14 recurve title.

He also went to the Junior Masters Tournament in Nott-ingham and placed 11th out of 30 competitors in the qualifying round and then reached the last 16 in Olympic-style head-to-head knockout rounds.

Five archers competed at the Blue Lion Tournament in Bournemouth. Rosie and Fred Cathcart were joined by younger sister Beth competing in her first competition.

Beth shot superbly to finish second in the Under-10 barebow event and with Rosie and Fred winning their bare- bow sections the family had a great trophy collection at the end.

George Larcombe also won his barebow event and Reuben Kingston won his recurve event, with another county record of 938 for a junior widsor, just 16 away from the national record.

Bride Valley claimed the barebow team trophy ahead of Bournemouth.

Four Bride Valley archers have been selected for the Dorset and Wiltshire Junior Team for the South West Inter-Counties competition on Sept-ember 6.

Alice Hobbs (compound), Reuben Sparke (longbow), Daniel Wilkinson (barebow) and Kingston (recurve) will be competing against teams from Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Gloucester-shire.
