WITHERIDGE II 2

LYME REGIS 1

LYME Regis fell short despite dominating as they lost 2-1 against Witheridge II, suffering another blow to their promotion chances.

It was a lively start for the hosts, who capitalised on an emphatic opening 20 minutes by scoring twice in quick succession to put Lyme immediately on the back foot.

But the visitors managed to stamp their authority on the Devon & Exeter Division One match, showing an excellent attitude to take control and carve out a number of opportunities in the end of the first half.

As the second period unfolded, Lyme dominated further and got their breakthrough with 15 minutes remaining, with Kieran Daniels getting the goal.

But despite late chances, Lyme failed to score leaving assistant-manager Steve Crabb feeling the result was unjustified. He said: “It is disappointing to lose but I feel happier with the performance and attitude than I was last week. We’ve harped on about promotion, perhaps we need to forget about promotion and just let the lads go out and play. If they perform like that they’re going to win more games than they lose.”

Speaking of his side’s promotion credentials, Crabb was frank in his assessment.

He said: “We’re still in with a chance, it’s just that we need to win every game. Whether that puts pressure on the players I’m not sure but it’s probably out of our hands a little bit now.”
