SIMON Gale scored for the third game running and new signing Kriss Radivojsa netted on his debut as the Bees knocked rivals Weymouth out of the Dorset Premier League Cup at St Mary’s Field.

The hosts’ first round success came just three weeks after they also beat Bradley Asagba’s Weymouth side in the league.

Gale was Bridport’s match-winner on that occasion and he was also on target during his side’s Dorset Senior Trophy triumph over Dorchester Sports last time out.

“The lads played exceptionally well from the first whistle,” said Bees’ boss Shaun Annetts when reflecting on Saturday’s win.

“We did create a lot of chances and Weymouth’s best player was their keeper who made some outstanding saves to keep the score respectable.

“My lads were superb in every department and a lot of credit has to go to the back four.

“From an offensive point of view we went with an attacking four and they really tested Weymouth with their movement.

“I’m thrilled to bits with the result, it was well deserved.”

Despite Robin Jones and Tom Blair pulling the strings for Bridport against the wind in the first half, the hosts couldn’t find a breakthrough and the sides were goalless at the break.

But Gale made it 1-0 after the restart, the midfielder firing a shot into the roof of the net past Adam Tong after the Terras’ keeper had saved his initial effort.

The Bees knew they needed another to make the game safe but Tong frustrated them with several excellent stops.

Annetts then introduced Radivojsa, brought in from Dorchester last week, and the debutant marked his first Bridport appearance in the best possible fashion.

A corner from the left landed at the youngster's feet and he rifled home from six yards.

“It was great for Kriss to get a debut goal,” added Annetts. “Hopefully he’ll provide a real goal threat for us from now on.

“Kriss had been playing for Dorchester’s under-18s but came to train with us last week and we got him signed on.

“He was keen to impress and he certainly did that on Saturday.”

Annetts also brought on teenager Sol Davis late in the tie and has high hopes for him as well.
