DOMINIC Gape admitted it was a “simple decision” to sign a contract extension with Premier League outfit Southampton.

The 20-year-old, who made his Saints debut against Everton earlier this season, has penned a deal which runs until the summer of 2017.

“It’s a proud moment for me and my family,” said the midfielder. “I don’t really know much about life outside Southampton Football Club.

“I’ve been treated really well here and I get on with everyone, so it was a simple decision.

“I’ve been here a long time, I know the place and I know where the club is going, so I’m really happy.”

Gape got his first taste of the Premier League when he came on as a late substitute in December’s 3-0 defeat of the Toffees.

The Burton Bradstock starlet has also played 14 times for the club’s under-21 side, who he helped reach the final of the Under-21 Premier League Cup.

It was in April 2013 that Gape signed his first professional contract at St Mary’s, following in the footsteps of Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott.

Gape’s under-21 team-mate Ryan Seager has also put pen to paper on a contract extension, with his deal running until 2018.

“I’ve just got to keep pushing on now and hopefully next season continue doing the same,” he said.
