MISTERTON 0 BEAMINSTER 25

BEAMINSTER recorded one of the biggest wins ever in the Perry Street League last weekend, beating a forlorn Misterton outfit by a scoreline any rugby team would have been proud of.

And it was a day that Beaminster’s Josh Hunter won’t forget in a hurry – he scored 12 of his side’s 25 goals in the one-sided Premier Division fixture.

Several other players weighed in with hat-tricks for the visitors and the scoring was rounded off by goalkeeper Billy Fleet, whose penalty put the seal on a remarkable afternoon’s action in Somerset.

And while delighted with his team’s massive triumph, Beaminster president Mike Runyard had sympathy for Misterton.

“I think they’ve had a lot of players leave since last season and are playing with a weakened side,” he said.

“They started with a bare XI and also had a player sent off, but even when players leave a club you have to fulfil your fixtures.

“It was a bit surreal and you have to feel sorry for Misterton.

“Their club is in trouble and if they can’t complete the season then this result won’t mean any-thing.”

Beaminster’s success took them to sixth place in the table and sets them up nicely for Saturday’s home clash with second-placed Shepton Beau-champ (2.30pm).

Meanwhile, Lyme Regis lost 2-1 to Devon & Exeter League Division Three leaders Exmouth Town Reserves last weekend.

The Seasiders, 10 points behind Exmouth, host Cheriton Fitzpaine on Saturday (2.15pm).

Lyme’s reserves, 1-0 losers at Crewkerne in their previous out- ing, are in Dorset Intermediate Cup action when they go to Wyke Regis Social Club (1.30pm), while Lyme Bantams visit Millwey Rise in Perry Street Division One (2.30pm).

The Bantams drew 1-1 with Forton Rangers last weekend.
