ALDERHOLT 2 LYME REGIS 3 (after extra-time)

KARL Diment came off the bench and netted a crucial equaliser as Lyme Regis booked a place in the Dorset Intermediate Cup final for the second year in succession.

Lyme looked to be heading out at Alderholt until their player-manager entered the fray and headed home with just seven minutes left to send the tie to extra-time.

The hosts then regained their lead before a Julien Simier double saw the Seasiders set up a meeting with Gillingham Town A in the final at a neutral venue on April 23.

A delighted Diment said: “The first 90 minutes were tight throughout with very few chances.

“They then took the lead on the half-hour before I came off the bench and scored a header to send the tie into extra-time.

“There were a lot of heavy legs at that stage but we kept going and although they then went 2-1 up we managed to come back again to win it 3-2.

“Will Mowbray crossed for Julien to equalise two minutes into the second period of extra-time before it was Julien again who grabbed the winner with an excellent diving header.

“It was certainly a nice time for me to score my first goal for the club and the never-say-die attitude we showed throughout was just fantastic. To come back twice the way we did in such heavy conditions was an incredible effort.”

Lyme lost last year’s Dorset Intermediate Cup final against Milborne Sports but Diment is now hoping they can go one better.

He added: “Hopefully we can go a step further this time and I know this is the one the players really want.

“With the Coronation Cup, Challenge Cup and Crewkerne Hospital Cup, we now have four finals to look forward to and I am just so happy for everyone at the club.”

Lyme have no game this weekend and will return to action in the Perry Street Premier Division on March 23 when they entertain Perry Street.
