BRIDPORT RES 1 SHERBORNE TOWN RES 1

LUKE King’s stunning performance was the best thing to come out of the Bees’ stalemate against Sherborne Town Reserves at St Mary’s Field.

The youngster was handed a starting role and duly took his opportunity but once again Bridport failed to make the most of their superiority in a frustrating draw.

Boss Robin Townsend said: “We lost a couple of players to the first team, which is what we are here for at the end of the day, so we gave Luke a chance from the start and he was absolutely brilliant.

“Luke has stepped up from the thirds in recent weeks and seeing a performance like that from him gave me a lot of satisfaction.

“As for the team as a whole, we started well but once again didn’t make the most of our chances.

“We then went 1-0 up and for some reason took our foot off the pedal which allowed them to get a foothold in the game.

“We managed to keep ahead at half-time but after the break they then had a 20-minute spell in which they battered us.

“Jamie Fry made three or four great saves before they eventually equalised through an unfortunate own goal from Sam Day, who had to make the challenge otherwise one of their lads would have put the ball in anyway.

“After that Jamie then conceded a penalty, which he saved, before we then went on to batter them in the last 10 minutes but we just could not find a winner.”

Gary Bulman grabbed the Bees’ goal with a fine finish following good work from Tristan Gale.

Townsend went on to add: “On reflection 1-1 was probably fair but it was just disappointing to drop more points at home.

“Some of the older lads in the side are still not quite at it for some reason and we just need to get them going again.

“But like I said, it is great to see players like Luke stepping up and making an impact from the thirds and hopefully more will follow.”

Next up for the Bees in the Magna Dorset Premier League is a trip to Hamworthy Recreation on Saturday.
