UPLYME & LYME REGIS 191-8 (19pts) beat BABBACOMBE 146 (6pts) by 45 runs
UPLYME & Lyme Regis claimed the prized scalp of Devon League D Division table-toppers Babbacombe at Walls Hill.
Chasing the visitors’ total of 191-8, the home side fell 45 runs short to lose for just the second time this season in the league.
Uplyme got off to a promising start through openers Mark Batey and Rob Thom.
But their hopes were hit when the former was bowled for 28 and then next man Tyler Wellman was dismissed without scoring.
Thom and Nick Dinnison (31) put on 63 for the third wicket until the latter was trapped leg before by Paul Bates (4-42).
However, Thom (47) stood firm and his was the last Uplyme wicket to fall with the score on 146.
Tail-enders Charlie Warner (10no) and Rhys Davies (31no) batted bravely to add 45 crucial runs before the allotted 45 overs were up.
Babbacombe’s reply began poorly with Warner (2-21) and Dinnison (2-23) reducing the home side to 16-3.
Steve Broad showed some fight with a knock of 46, Andreas van Wyk added 27 and Matt Inch scored 34, but Babbacombe lost their last five wickets for 25 runs.
Paddy Barraclough (3-25), Steve Batey (1-14) and Davies (1-33) also claimed wickets for Uplyme.
