CLYST ST GEORGE (5pts) 157 lost to UPLYME & LYME REGIS (22pts) 159-5 by 5 wickets

THE accurate Uplyme bowling attack made best use of the wicket prepared by King George Playing Field groundsman John Hunt to beat Clyst.

Visiting openers Ferro and Cooper looked set for a high score, but the partnership was broken when Rhys Davies had Cooper caught.

Ferro (40) tried to rebuild the innings with Welsh before the former was dismissed by Uplyme skipper Steve Batey.

The hosts took command of the D Division clash, tearing through the Clyst middle order for the addition of only 58.

Davies finished with 4-47 and was ably supported by Paddy Barraclough (2-45).

It was left to left-arm paceman Nic Dinnison to clean up the tail and leave Clyst on a below-par score of 157.

Uplyme lost opener Rob Thom early in their reply, but they moved to 105-4 thanks to Jed Whittington (28) and Dinnison (31).

Steve Batey went without scoring, though normal service was resumed as Tyler Wellman (17) and Mark Batey (53no) saw their side home.

HALBERTON & SAMPFORD PEVERELL 276-6 (20pts) beat UPLYME SECONDS 209 (8pts) by 67 runs

INFLUENCED by a team containing more bowlers than recognised batsmen, Uplyme skipper Rodney Holmes opted to bowl first on a flat Halberton track.

He must have regretted his decision as Halberton raced to 100 in 18 overs.

It was not until halfway through the innings, and with the score on 135, that veteran bowler Steve Howe, below, made the breakthrough, bowling opener Everett for 50.

Halberton continued to race along but the introduction of Daley Holmes checked their progress, removing Rowd and Chilcott (88).

With wickets in hand, Halberton’s batsmen did not need a second invitation to go for runs. But their onslaught allowed Daley to take three more wickets and finish with figures of 5-39.

The Uplyme reply started positively with Clarke and David Jones putting on 50 before Jones was clean bowled by Broomfield.

Wickets then fell at regular intervals until Wesley Holmes joined Clarke and it looked as though the innings would gain some momentum.

But Wesley (26) tried one shot too many against off-spinner Harding and was bowled.

Rodney Holmes was then run out for one and it was left to Daley to make a positive contribution.

His partnership with Clarke added 63 and with 13 overs left Uplyme needed 100 more.

Thirteen-year-old Daley batted well but the pressure got to him and Harding bowled him for 30. Uplyme managed to achieve maximum batting points when they reached 200, but the game was up when Clarke (94), having kept wicket and batted throughout the innings, was last man out in the penultimate over.

Under-15 West Dorset Junior League

DORCHESTER 67-7 beat UPLYME 64 by 3 runs UPLYME, without skipper Rhys Davies, came up just short in their top of the table encounter with Dorchester.

Stand-in captain Wesley Holmes elected to bowl after winning the toss and Uplyme kept their hosts to 67-7. Daley Holmes (4-16) was the standout bowler.

On a pitch with variable bounce, the Uplyme reply was never going to be easy and that became apparent when the visitors were reduced to 26-5.

The lower order tried to eke out the runs but both Alex Jones and Lorcan Hankin fell without scoring to leave their side just four short.

Under-13s BERE REGIS 49 lost to UPLYME 50-3 by 7 wickets

TEN-MAN Uplyme made light of their player shortage to claim a good win away to Bere Regis.

Bere were asked to bat first and appeared to be going well at 46-4.

However, the introduction of Louis Morel to the bowling attack changed things dramatically, and he took five wickets in seven balls, including a hat-trick, as Bere slumped to 49 all out in 11.2 overs.

Uplyme gave some of their less experienced batsmen an opportunity and Henry Rudkin made the most of the chance, scoring 11 in a partnership of 40 with Daley Holmes, who retired on 25 not out.
