BEAMINSTER’S campaign in the Dorset League ended in strange circumstances with both their sides receiving no points.
The West Dorset outfit decided to scratch their first-team game at Branksome & Parkstone in Division Two in favour of fielding a stronger second XI at home to Chalke Valley in Division Six, but despite completing that match the result was still deemed in-valid.
As a result, Branksome and Chalke Valley both picked up the full 20 points.
In a statement to Beaminster, league secretary Alan Graham said: “Unfortunately, I have had notice that your first team scratched today.
“If that is correct, it means the second team’s match has to count as a scratched match as well, according to league rules.”
Had the initial result with Chalke stood it would have still delivered a similar outcome.
The visitors needed to win to lift the title and they did not disappoint, bowling Beam-inster out for 156 and knocking the runs off despite a late flurry of wickets.
In the final standings, Beaminster Seconds finished bottom of Division Six while their first XI came eighth in Division Two.
