ASHBURTON 244-5 (22pts) beat UPLYME & LYME REGIS 167 (5pts) by 77 runs KILMINGTON 183 (9pts) lost to UPLYME & LYME REGIS SECONDS 193-7 (19pts) by 10 runs

UPLYME & Lyme Regis were brushed aside at Ashburton in their latest Devon League D Division contest.

The hosts batted first and despite losing Will-iam Coon (7) made great headway with fellow opener Kevin Nichols anchoring the innings from start to finish with a fine knock of 78 not out.

Chris Pascoe (28) and Damanpreet Singh (50) also enjoyed their time in the middle before Ale-xander Connabeer’s (20) late contribution took the total to a very competitive 244.

Adam Caddy (2-31) and Steve Batey (2-41) were the pick of the Lyme bowlers but in reply Ashburton always looked in control.

Rob Thom (0) and Tyler Wellman (2) fell early and although Alex Taylor (40), Batey (32) and Mark Brimicombe (42) fought hard, the result was never really in doubt as the hosts wrapped up a 77-run success by knocking their opponents over in just 32.1 overs.

There were better fortunes for Uplyme Sec-onds in D Division East where they are still vying for a top-three finish.

They overcame Kil-mington Seconds by 10 runs to move into third spot, 17 points adrift of table-toppers Axminster Seconds, who they visit in their final game on Saturday.

Mark Batey top-scored for Uplyme with a half-century.

Uplyme’s first XI, who sit in mid-table, will also complete their campaign this weekend with a home clash against Hal-berton & Sampford Peverell.
