Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club’s Men’s Section

CONDITIONS were good for the men’s monthly medal and the fine weather attracted an entry of 84 players, writes Peter Crowter.

Not surprisingly some good scores were turned in and five players received handicap reductions.

Grant Gerrard led Division Three with a nett 70 and the top man in Division Two, after count-back, was Joe Zieba with a nett 68.

The runner-up in Divis-ion One also scored 68 but the clear winner by three shots, with an excellent score of 65, was Kevin Jones, his gross of 72 being just one over par.

RESULTS

Division One: 1 Kevin Jones 72-7-65 (lg), 2 Ben Ashton 79-11-68, 3 Graham Blunden 76-7-69.

Division Two: 1 (acb) Joe Zieba 83-15-68, 2 Bryn Dare 81-13-68 (lg), 3 Patrick Hart 86-17-69.

Division Three: 1 Grant Gerrard 96-26-70, 2 (acb) Andrew Reichter 92-21-71 (lg), 3 Andrew Shephard 96-25-71.

* Jones, Blunden, Zieba, Dare and Hart all received a one-shot handicap reduction. There were 11 twos.

Veterans’ Section

THURSDAY’S competition was a drawn stableford and 58 players took the field.

There was a brisk north-west breeze and this, coupled with the heavy rough, resulted in some moderate scoring, especially in the higher handicap division.

Top score in that division was carded by Bob Simpson with 34 points, two clear of runner-up Tony Udall with 32.

Top place on the day went to Richard Fox who edged ahead of Richard Parry after countback, both coming in with 37 points in Division One.

Parry’s score earned him a one-shot handicap reduction.

RESULTS

Division One: 1 (acb) Richard Fox (16) 37 points, 2 Richard Parry (17) 37, 3 Phil Dowell (11) 36, 4 (acb) Terry Kearley (19) 34.

Division Two. 1 Bob Simpson (27) 34, 2 (acb) Tony Udall (24) 32, 3 Rob Fox (25) 32, 4 Nigel Vincent (27) 31.

Ladies’ Section Granny Cup

THE Granny section gets bigger with every passing year, and Julie Olvier (19pts) came out on top of the 19 that competed in a stableford competition.

The 16 non-grannies also played a stableford with Nicky Stone (34pts) triumphing.

RESULTS

Granny Cup – Winner: Julie Oliver (31pts), runner-up: Liz Wilson (29pts).

Stableford – Winner: Nicky Stone (34pts), runner-up: Liz Thompson (31pts
