BRIDPORT will be putting their faith in youth this season.

The Dorset & Wilts One South campaign gets underway with a trip to Bourne-mouth Thirds on Saturday (3pm) and a large number of last season’s Colts have been promoted to the senior side.

Newly-appointed first-team skipper Ricky Stubbs is confident in the youngsters’ abilities.

He said: “We had a very good Colts side last season so there are a lot of them coming through to the first team.

“They are not new to the club but they are new to the senior team. They have been training pretty hard though and hopefully they will stand up and be counted.”

Asked if the club harboured any particular ambitions this term, Stubbs replied: “We are starting afresh this season with a lot of people in new roles at the club but we want to try and finish in the top half of the table.

“We will just see how this season goes to set us up for the following year.”

First on the agenda is the weekend clash at Bourne-mouth, with Stubbs admitting their opponents will be somewhat of an unknown quantity.

He added: “I doubt they will have any of their university students available but they are such a big club that you don’t know how their squad will perform at the start of the season.

“We have got a new fitness coach this season though, and hopefully that will be a big help.”

Last season’s head coach Mark Botten has stepped down from his role due to work commitments so the Blues will be led by team manager Arthur Barclay.
