Blues end mixed season on a high

TRY-SCORER: Tim Edwards in action against Ellingham & Ringwood Seconds
Bridport 39 ELLINGHAM & R II 3 BRIDPORT signed off for the season with a convincing victory over rock-bottom Ellingham & Ringwood Seconds.
The Blues ran out 39-3 winners at Brewery Field as Tony Herbert, Sean Stewart, Mike Pibworth, Marcus Colborne, Harry Clark, Tim Edwards and Wes Lewis all touched down for the hosts – the total completed by two conversions from the latter.
Head coach Mark Botten said: “It was a good win but it was a bit of a scrappy game. They came with a big squad but we had a pretty strong side out and scored at regular intervals throughout the game.
“I felt we dominated in all areas and although it was a good end-of-season win, it wasn’t a particularly good performance.
“They are the bottom side so we expected to win.”
Bridport end the campaign seventh in Dorset & Wilts One South with 10 wins from 22 games.
Reflecting on the season as a whole, and looking ahead to next year, Botten added: “It’s been a funny season. We’ve been good at home but we’ve only won two away and that is something we need to address.
“After relegation last year, this season’s aim was to consolidate. The squad should be strengthened next season as we’ve had a few long-term injuries this season and some people away travelling.
“We’ve had to field such a young side this season so it’ll be good to have more competition for places.
“The future is bright and hopefully this season has shown the guys what level they have got to reach.
“We also need to be a bit more ruthless in certain areas.”
