IN the weather lottery of recent weeks the men drew the short straw for their Three-Man-Team Stableford as 27 teams took part on a wet and windy morning.

A total of the best two scores from each team counted, playing off ¾ handicap, and the results show that it was a day when the lower handicap players were best able to cope with the conditions.

Just one point separated the top two teams but coming out on top with a score of 74 points was the team of Kevin Jones, Steve Cleal and David Corp. o o o IN the Hardy B League, in their away match against Canford School, Bridport won 4-1. They also won their home match versus Christchurch by the same scoreline.

Bridport have one match remaining, at home to Ashley Wood, and have a very good chance of gaining promotion if they can secure victory.

o o o ONCE more the sun shone on the more mature members of the club.

It was the sixth and final round of the Holmes Cup & Eclectic and there were 49 starters. Richard Boorne was two shots ahead of his nearest rival in Division Two with a nett score of 72 but overall you could say it was a one horse race.

Division One took the honours this week with five players coming in with a score of 71 and runner-up Richard Fox carded a straight 70.

However, there was a runaway winner and that was Gerald Allum who romped home four shots clear of the rest of the field with a fine score of 66.

The overall winner of the Holmes Cup though, is Brian Osborne. Second spot went to Richard Fox with John Samson third.

The Eclectic competition ended in a tie between Nick Franks and Keith Brown.

o o o JAN Clark chose The Great Outdoors as her theme for the Lady Captain’s Day and the female members did her proud, writes Lyn Hargrave.

‘Those who dare, win’ was the competition played in pairs – Silver players choosing to tee from the white tees and Bronze from the yellow could double their scores.

The majority in doing so discovered how although a longer tee shot was required the orientation of the tee made for a straighter result.

The winning pair on holiday from Manchester, complete with knotted hankies on heads, were Nicky Stone and Sarah Fitzgerald-Zimmer with 131 points.

Runners-up from the south seas shimmying in sarongs were Kath Joslin and Marilyn Wilson (113pts).

Sailor Liz Thompson won the Putts with 23 while scout Heather Boyle prevailed in the Pitching with 12.
