Bees have no fear of Gills - Senior

Bridport will be respectful but not fearful when they lock horns with Gillingham Town tonight (7.45pm), says boss Trevor Senior.

The Bees are buoyant after recording their third consecutive victory in all competitions and scoring four goals for the first time this campaign in Saturday’s trouncing of Shepton Mallet.

Highly-rated striker Warren Byerley again demonstrated his class, while at the other end gloveman Andy Suttle kept his second successive clean sheet.

Though Bridport will face a step up in class at Hardings Lane, Senior believes his men can extend their unbeaten run and perhaps capture the Dorset bragging rights.

Previewing tonight’s showdown, he said: “Gillingham were one of the top teams earlier in the season and we’ll give them respect.

“But if we play how I know we can then I don’t fear anybody. There is a bit of a rivalry between the clubs and it should be a good game of football for spectators.

“Gillingham score a lot of goals but they’ve only kept one clean sheet the whole season, so maybe that’s something we can exploit.

“It would be nice to get a good result up there because it will give us a platform for the Les Phillips Cup match on Saturday, which is a really big game.”

Goal machines Lee Gale (17) and Matthew Chant (14) have netted 31 times between them to date and underwritten the sixth-placed Gills’ promotion charge.

After a lightning start to the season in which they reeled off eight straight victories, a mini-slump coincided with their well-documented pitch problems.

But since a two-month absence from Toolstation Western League Division One action - a period that claimed the original date of this fixture - they have won three from four.

For the Bees, Chris Clarke sustained a knock on Saturday but it is expected to retain his place, while newcomer Steve Gilbert could also feature.

Chris Senior, who came on as a substitute against Shepton Mallet and was utilised as a makeshift striker, is pushing for a starting berth.
