SAM Sherring impressed Weymouth boss Mark Molesley in his brief debut for the club against Hartley Wintney as the Terras staged a late comeback to draw 2-2 in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

Defender Sherring was announced to have signed from Bournemouth on an ongoing loan but Molesley admitted the deal had been done prior to the close of the loan window.

Molesley said: “I think he came on for five minutes plus stoppage so he was on the pitch just shy of 10 minutes but that 10 minutes I thought he had a massive impact.”

Molesley praised Sherring, 18, for his ability on the ball in a match in which Warren Bentley scored to rescue a point from being 2-0 down after 77 minutes with the goal in the 91st minute.

Molesley said: “He used the ball, his range of passing, his defensive headers. For a young boy I thought he came on and in a pressured situation I thought he was fantastic. In that 10 minutes I was really pleased with the impact that he had.”

Weymouth did not announce the signing prior to last Saturday as Sherring was unavailable until the Hartley Wintney match.

Molesley also praised Sherring for his ability to stay calm under pressure with Weymouth behind for the first six minutes of his debut.

Molesley said: “He showed how calm under pressure he was so that is a real plus for us as well and the big plus is that despite us having a bad spell the boys never gave up.

“They kept plugging away, kept going, showed real character, real desire and we came back again at the end.”
