BRIDPORT 5

WARMINSTER TOWN 0

BRIDPORT produced a devastating spell of three goals in 10 minutes at the end of the first half to confidently dispatch Warminster Town 5-0 in the FA Vase second qualifying round.

Recent signing Sam Clarke got off the mark with his first two goals for the club as Bridport had a comfortable victory.

Bridport started slowly as they tried to feel their way into the match.

Warminster had a couple of opportunities but they struggled to create any real clear-cut chances to trouble Bridport goalkeeper Jason Hutchings.

However, three goals in a 10-minute spell saw the Bees have clear daylight between them and Warminster by the end of the first half.

Firstly, Mark Salter had a penalty saved by the Warminster goalkeeper but Oscar Latas followed it up from the save to open the scoring.

Then Leighton Thomas got played through one-on-one with the goalkeeper and fired in despite the Warminster stopper getting a hand to it.

Thomas grabbed another goal from the edge of the box on the stroke of half-time to give the Bees an intimidating lead.

Clarke then grabbed his first goal for the club when Salter allowed him to take a penalty which he happily dispatched after 65 minutes.

Two minutes later Clarke had another as he got into the box and twisted the Warminster defence before firing in across the goalkeeper and into the net.

Warminster failed to threaten late on as Bridport saw the game out well.

Chris McGrath tweaked his hamstring in the warm-up but could not shake it off and as a result was substituted for Clarke with 30 minutes on the clock.

Bridport boss Adam Fricker, said: “It was a good result, I don’t think our performance was great if I am honest.

“It probably could have been more if we played to the best of our ability.

“We were quite sluggish, at the end of the day we have kept a clean sheet, scored five goals and moved on into the next round and sometimes that is all that matters.”

Bridport are next in action at home to Brislington on Saturday in the Toolstation Western Premier Division (3pm).
