BRIDPORT resident Pascal Maclean-Wood has had an exceptional summer of tennis.

The Thomas Hardye School student, 14, has two under-14 regional level wins, a runner-up placing and also reached the semi-finals of two under-16 regional G3 events.

The under-14 singles and doubles county champion took his first victory at Taunton over the number one seed 6-3, 6-4 in a tense final.

His summer season closed with a brilliant double victory in the Dorset County Championships at The West Hants Club in Bournemouth.

In the singles semi-final he beat his doubles partner 7-6(4), 6-3 in an epic three-hour match. After just an hour of rest and food intake, he went on to succeed 6-2, 6-3 in the final.

Not finished yet, Pascal and his doubles partner still had another one-and a-half hours of quality tennis to play to secure a 6-0, 7-6(3) triumph.

Maclean-Wood’s exceptional results have allowed him to make a double ratings LTA jump to a 4:2 and he has also helped Bridport Men’s Tennis Team, captained by Ludo Blackburn, keep their place in Division One next year.

Maclean-Wood has set his sights on qualifying for the under-14s nationals in the 2018/19 season.

He is coached by Julien Lawes at Weymouth and regularly trains at the West Hants Tennis Club in Bournemouth. The youngster would also like to thank Bridport Leisure Centre for their help with the Talented Athlete scheme.
