LYME REGIS 5

SEATON TOWN 1

LYME Regis secured a 5-1 thrashing of rivals Seaton Town with braces from Ben Turner and Jake Bearpark as they confidently hit back after conceding an early penalty in the Devon & Exeter Premier Division.

Lyme had several players missing with Dominic Rowe, Julien Simier, Callum Larcombe, Lee Cleal, Sam Jones, Bradley Rowe, Ben Vine, Kieron White and Declan Ellis all out for the Seasiders.

Lyme had a tough start as they went 1-0 down after 10 minutes when a trip on the edge of the box from Kingsley Wellman earned Seaton a penalty which they dispatched comfortably into the net.

Within 10 minutes, the Seasiders had equalised however, when Ben Turner headed into the net.

The hosts then completed the early turnaround in the 40th minute when another Turner header put Lyme in front for the first time in the match.

The first half ended with Lyme well on top but unable to capitalise further.

In the second half, Jake Bearpark got the half started perfectly five minutes in, when he cut in from the left flank and drilled it into the bottom corner.

Bearpark was very lively at the start of the second half as a

before Lyme further extended their lead on 60 minutes when a quick throw-in found the Lyme player who ran through and smashed into the net to make it 4-1.

Fred Parsons then scored the best of the bunch on 80 minutes when he rifled a low shot into the net from 25 yards.

Lyme were unable to add to their score as the match ended with a resounding 5-1 scoreline to the hosts.

Lyme Regis manager Gerard Hitchcock said: “It was a good win. It is always good, it is a local derby so only four games into a new season and it is all a new league so it is good. It could have been a few more to be perfectly honest but no you would take 5-1.

“It would have been nice to maybe have bagged a few more but at the end of the day 5-1 is still a decent enough win.

“We were a little bit disappointed in the loss to Colyton the other day but we probably had as many chances as them, they just scored three out of their six chances and we did not score any of our six.”
