THE MEN’S August Medal turned out to be a bit of a washout with only 10 players braving the elements.

Just six of those finished their rounds with Barry O’Mahony taking victory among the Bridport golfers.

There were five starters in Division One with just three finishing but O’Mahony was the winner scoring 75 while in second place was Martin Horton with 92-11=81 and Eddie Cary came in third with 89-6=83.

Four men turned out in Division Two with only three completing their rounds.

Stephen Battrick took first place by a whopping four shots as he scored 91-17=74.

Meanwhile, the runner-up was Nathan Dunford with 96-18=78 who in turn came home four shots ahead of Ian Thacker, who was third scoring 98-16=82.

Veterans’ Section

THREE sub-70 scores in Division One were recorded with some superb performances from Brian Fearon, Malcolm Peach and Dave Howat.

The former took victory after countback from Peach as the Bridport veterans played their fifth and final round of the Holmes Cup.

In Division Two action, Mick Kelson also scored below 70 as 48 members took part in this final round and this earned Kelson top spot and is a man in-form having won the Roy Thompson Cup last week.

There are normally six rounds to this competition but due to games having to be cancelled owing to bad weather in the winter the number of rounds has been reduced.

Fearon and Peach subsequently had their handicaps reduced by one stroke and the overall winner of the Holmes Cup will be announced next week.

Results: Division One: (acb) Brian Fearon 81-14=67, Malcolm Peach 85-18=67, Dave Howat 84-15=69, Dougie Howells 91-20=71.

Division Two: Mick Kelson 91-22=69, Brian Austin 94-24=70, Andrew Reichter 94-23=71, Alan Scutt 94-22=72.
