Golf: Grant Rist has edge in Bridport Stableford

There were 33 entrants for this single division event and Rist came out on top, followed by Jon Legg-Bagg (13) with 39 points and another four-point margin separated him from third-placed Stephen Battrick (17) who carded 35 points.

Mick Kelson from Division Two took the Roy Thompson Cup in the veterans’ section after countback as four players secured a nett 70.

The veterans’ Thursday competition was a medal for the cup and 51 players took part.

No player managed to card a nett score in the 60s but four players came in with a nett 70 and Kelson’s scoring was consistent notching a gross 46 for both the front and the back nine holes and included a two on the 14th.

In Division One, Ed Hanson, Bryan Holmes and Malcolm Peach all came in with gross 70s with Hanson placed top after countback.

RESULTS:

Division One: (acb) Ed Hanson 83-13=70, (acb) Bryan Holmes 85-15=70, Malcolm Peach 88-18=70, (acb) Ian Thacker 87-16=71.

Division Two: Mick Kelson 92-22=70, (acb) Alan Bentley 95-23=72, (acb) Gil Roberts 98-26=72, Chris Norsworthy 95-23=72.

Ladies’ Section

A FINE day attracted a good field for this week’s competitions and two ladies’ trophies were played over 36 holes were competed for, the Scratch Cup and the handicapped Green Salver, writes Lyn Jessop.

Also played for were the Kath Joslin Cup for ladies aged over 65 and the Rookie Cup for those never having won a cup which were less strenuously played over a mere 18 holes.

The club president attended a supper for the ladies and presented the prizes and also receiving a prize was Jane White who achieved a hole-in-one at the 10th.

RESULTS:

Scratch Cup, Club Championship: Nicky Stone 81 + 82 = 163, Toshiko Ricketts 92 + 100 = 192.

Green Salver: Ruth Donovan 71 + 70 = 141, Sue Winkle 70 + 74 = 144.

Kath Joslin Cup: Lyn Jessop 33 points, Liz Walker 31 points.

Rookie Cup: Anne Follett 29 points.
