LYME Regis Women’s team had a superb 79-52 (8-2) victory over Sherborne in the Dorset Ladies Division One, while the men in Lyme’s second team went down 58-50 against Portland Victoria despite winning on two rinks.

The first rink saw a resounding 39-17 win through H Dowling, C Pomeroy, L Broom and C Barber that set up the rest of the match finely for the team.

There was a slight hiccup as A Allman A Darvill, A Rattenbury and P Weech fell narrowly in the second rink 17-16.

V Henson, N Driscoll, N Stephens, and S Rowe then elongated the margin of victory to 24-18.

The club held its annual Lyme Regis Ladies Triples Tournament and, in the 22nd year that it has been held there, were exactly 22 teams from around the district competing.

The competition is a round robin format over three games, with the two leading scores going through to the final.

The winners were a hybrid team from different clubs as Pamela Daters, Steff Pinson and Bridget Hodder saw success, while the runners-up were a team from Chard Bowls Club and the trophy was presented by the joint sponsors Nola Stephens and Lesley Broom.

The competition was played in extremely taxing conditions, with a near gale blowing off the sea and the occasional heavy shower.

A men’s four of Simon Dowling, Alan Nabarro, Barry Rattenbury and Paul Moffitt competed in Sidmouth’s invitation Jubilee Cup competition on Thursday and emerged as the eventual winners from the 14 teams that were competing.

A fundraising drive was also held during the week to raise money for the RNLI.
