DAVID Lyon sealed his second consecutive club championship at Lyme Regis Golf Club with a score of 143 over the course of two days.

He started as he meant to go on by shooting a level par 71 on the first day and only two shots behind were Jon Ebdon and Scott Love, who both looked in good form.

In pole position of the handicap championship were Jon Ebdon, Jason Lindley and Bradley Searle all with nett 70s with half a dozen 71ers snapping at their heels.

Lyon had played some solid golf to get into pole position for the next day, which arrived with hopes high amongst several players but in general the course showed its teeth as several players fell by the wayside.

Lyon who, although a shot worse off than day one, still showed his class and determination as he shot 72 to finish with 143, a score that in the end was plenty good enough to win and hold on for back to back club championship wins.

Matt Searle improved on his day one score to finish second on 152 while George Seed finished third on 155 with two steady rounds.

In the Handicap Trophy, day two belonged to 11 year-old Zac Mudford who shot the best nett score of the competition with 68. improving by six shots on his score from the first day.

Mudford had played despite going off on holiday, so crammed a lot into the day, but his golf on day two showed a maturity beyond his years as he won the trophy with 142.

Lyon finished second on 143, while Lewis Gibbons held two good rounds together to finish third on 144.

The seniors’ Ted Ray Putter Stableford saw Keith Gibson and John Coley trading blows on each nine and it was down to Gibson’s birdie on the last hole that he beat Coley by one shot in a 37-36 end result.

Colin Conn finished third on countback also with a superb 36 points.

In the ladies’ Centenary Sword competition Di Harris started with a birdie four pointer and went on to have an excellent, uncatchable round as she finished strongly to score a brilliant 39 points.

Judith Page finished second with 34 points and but for a blip on the back nine could have scored much better while Jane Dixon pulled her socks up on the back nine to come in third with 33.
