SIR John Colfox Academy saw several of its members take home some superb medals including three golds and two silvers at the Dorset School’s County Championships in Bournemouth.

In total there were 15 members from the academy who helped make up part of a 65 strong team from South and West Dorset to compete at the championships, where they formed an area team taking on the best of Poole and East Dorset, North Dorset and Bournemouth Schools on Saturday, June 9.

Zara English took the first medal of the day, with a gold in the junior girls’ hammer.

English also showed her talent on the track, taking bronze in the 200m.

Another gold medal quickly followed as Maddy Herbert led from the front in the inter girls 800m and never looked back.

Katie Evans also had a day to remember claiming gold in the junior girls’ 300m with a new school record and she also showed her speed to take bronze in the 100m.

Ellen Pearce enjoyed a successful afternoon taking silver in the inter girls’ 200m and bronze in the 300m.

Fin Shoemark showed real promise and put in one of the performances of the day as, in his first 400m ever, he achieved a superb bronze and was 0.9 seconds outside the school record which has stood for 25 years.

Jess Herbert won a bronze in the junior girls’ javelin with a personal best and Olivia Willmore took silver in the 300m hurdles.

It was an excellent day and besides the students who were delighted to make it to the podium there were many other great performances from young athletes, including: Ellie Donoghue who came seventh in the junior girls’ discus, Sam Devecsery had a seventh place finish in the junior boys’ 300m.

Oliver Forsey finished seventh in the junior boys 800m, while Bailey Huxter finished ninth in the junior boys’ 800m.

Owen Pitcher ran hard to a ninth-place finish in the junior boys’ 1,500m, and a great performance from Tom Crabtree saw him finish fourth in the senior boys’ 3,000m.

Lastly Cora O’ Brien leaped to finish ninth in the junior girls’ high jump and Oakley Winters O’ Brien saw a double fifth-place finish in the minor boys’ 800m and in the high jump.
