UPLYME & LYME REGIS 126-5 (20pts) bt NORTH DEVON SECONDS 124 (5pts) by five wickets

UPLYME & Lyme Regis took a superb win against North Devon Seconds that saw them earn a valuable 20 points in their battle to get off of the foot of the table in D Division East of the Tolchards Devon Cricket League.

Uplyme won the toss and elected to bowl first in a move that paid off fantastically for the home side, with half of the North Devon batters dismissed before the team had 50 on the board.

The home side started well, with Ben Jones catching opener James Tyson from a Niall Waterhouse ball with 16 runs on the board.

Tyler Wellman then had a superb spell with three catches coming from his bowling, from Jed Whittington, Charlie Moss and Laurie Thomas respectively, in the space of nine runs to leave North Devon reeling at 30-4.

North Devon had a brief stand during the latter middle order, with Jeremy Thompson and Rikki Kelly getting 26 and 28 respectively that helped boost North Devon to an eventual tally of 124.

Uplyme had an easier time with the bat, as they put 34 runs on before Waterhouse was bowled by Carl Murphy.

Fellow opener Jed Whittington came close to a half century, batting 44 runs before being bowled by Dart.

A brief scare at 50-2 saw Uplyme lose three wickets in the space of two runs as Whittington, Wellman and Bruce Maltby were dismissed.

However, Thomas and Moss at the crease steered Uplyme to a superb win.

Uplyme captain Thomas said: "We decided to have a bowl first because the pitch was a bit wet, I thought that by the end of the day the pitch would dry up and it would be more suitable for batting. The pitch was a bit green so I thought that the best chance of bowling would be first up and they had come from North Devon so I thought lets put them into bat.

"Niall (Waterhouse) and Tyler (Wellman) opened the bowling and it was probably the best I have seen them bowl, they bowled really quite well. No freebies, they limited extras quite well."
