BEAMINSTER captain Ross Baker praised his side for their start to the season, which has seen them claim three wins and one loss in Division Two of the Dorset County League.

Baker saw his side ease to a five wicket win over Blandford that puts them joint second in the table, alongside Weymouth and Wimborne & Colehill Seconds.

Baker said: "I am very happy, I think we have competed well, players have stepped up to the higher level.

"We have had four really good performances I think, we have lost one close game but we cannot really fault the way we have played so far and the attitude has been fantastic.

"We will just have to hope that we can continue."

Reflecting on the victory against Blandford on Saturday, Baker said: "We finished off really well at the end by Dan Spiller, he played very aggressively and we had to score runs by hitting it in the air because the outfield was so long and he did that very well. to make sure we got over the line.

"We bowled in the right areas, we did not try to bowl too fast. We just bowled full and straight and the corridor just outside off stump.

"We took quite a few wickets bowled or caught behind.

"We had to keep the ball quite straight and let the wicket do the work."

Commenting on his own performance, which saw Baker take four wickets, Baker said: "It was nice to get a bit of rhythm, I have not bowled at my best so far this season but yesterday I found my rhythm and like I say bowled very straight and got my reward. It was pleasing to find a bit of form."

Baker admitted there could be some selection issues on Saturday for their trip to Charlton Down.

Baker said: "We have got a few selection problems because I think a few players are unavailable next week but we will see how it goes. I am going to try and get a side together but it might be harder next week.

"That is always the frustration, you want to keep that same team together but when you have got unavailabilities there is not much you can do about it."
