UPLYME & Lyme Regis secretary Derek Wellman admits it is going to be a rebuilding job for their side this season in the D Division East of the Devon Cricket League.

Their first fixture of the new season will see the side, now captained by Lloyd Thomas, travel to Clyst St George on Saturday (1.30pm).

Wellman said: “We hope we do well. This season is really going to be a rebuilding process and go from there.

“The reason is that we have lost a lot of players over the last three seasons. With players going off to university and getting jobs in London we have virtually lost a whole first team in the last three years.

“We have got to bring through younger players and hopefully they can come along and stay with the club.

“I suspect a lot of the other clubs are having the same problem.

Wellman added: “We have been hit with the football rolling on and the players at university but we have got two teams out which is really good.

“It is looking good, we are looking quite confident.”
