BRIDPORT & West Dorset Golf Club's veterans' Thursday competition was a medal for the Bill Caddy Putter, writes Peter Crowter.

Forty-four men turned out on a sunny morning, the hottest April day since 1949 we were told.

Jimmy Gbadebo carried off the trophy with a fine score of 80-13=67 which also earned him a one-shot handicap reduction.

Another good score was carded by second-placed Ray Southcombe and with his nett score of 69 he also had his handicap reduced.

Scores were not quite so impressive in Division Two where Alan Bentley and Richard Hansford both scored a nett 73 with the former taking the top spot after countback.
