HAMWORTHY RECREATION 5
BRIDPORT RESERVES 0
HAMWORTHY Recreation will top the Dorset Premier League at Christmas after Bridport Reserves were thumped 5-0.
Shaun Annetts' young Bees side fell behind after just five minutes when a great cross from the left by Brad Hill fell perfectly for the division's joint-top scorer Chris Long to slam in for 1-0.
Bridport did settle and had chances of their own only to see a timely defensive tackle by Pete Pritchard save Rec, before a good shot went narrowly wide.
Their best opportunity saw keeper Sam Jones produce a great tip away to a shot bound for the top corner.
But on 28 minutes the lead was doubled when Ali Garard chased a through ball and, despite being clattered by the keeper, managed to stay on his feet and slot in.
Just five minutes later it was game over when a fine move involving Long and Hill ended with Ash Boyt firing low into the corner for 3-0.
Undeterred, Bridport pushed forward and were unlucky to see a shot clip the bar, before Rec made it four prior to half-time when Pritchard converted from close-range following a corner.
After the break, Bridport wasted a good chance from close-range before Garard weaved his way into the box to fire in his second and Hamworthy’s fifth to wrap up the win.
Bees: Fleet, McAllister, Gall, Strelley, Weedon, Ward, Bagg, B Scadding, Handyside, Mansley, Cooper. Subs: Storey, Paul, Radivojsa
