THE Bridport foursome of Frances Hewett, Alison Tibble, Melodie Watts and Margaret Clapp, who already through to the National Finals at Leamington Spa have been successful again in the Senior Fours, a new Bowls England competition this year.

The quartet are Dorset County winners and play again at the National Finals and if successful have the chance to play in the British Isles' competition.

Making their debut at Leamington Spa are Laura Taylor and Pat Cornick in the four-wood pairs competition.

Bridport ladies were beaten 70-43 in County League Division Two.

However, Bridport did enjoy one rink win as Sue Jenkin, Jean Seadon, Pauline Newitt and Christine Cowdrey were 17-10 on the 16th end but needed one shot on the last to win 18-17.

Liz Kennedy, Jan Tattershall, Jill Willcox and Barbara Iverson were beaten 27-12, while Mary Marsh, Di S/Butcher, Margaret Strange and Marion Tocher 26-13.

Bridport were also defeated 67-46 by Dorchester B with Janet Bird, J Tattershall, J Willcox and B Iverson falling 20-14, Joan Griffiths, DS/Butcher, M Strange and M Tocher (28-17) and J Seadon, Sheila Jones, P Newitt and Delphine Street (19-15) also losing out.

However, in Division One, Bridport beat West Moors 64-48 after winning on all three rinks.

L Kennedy, Mary Eastman, Laura Taylor and Pat Cornick triumphed 20-16, Lyn Craddock, Marion Carter, Rosemary Brooks and Melodie Watts won 25-17 while Francis Hewitt, Gill Hunt, Alison Tibble and Margaret Clapp enjoyed a 19-15 success.

For the men, only two rinks were completed against Weymouth & Melcombe Regis in the South Dorset League.

D Hoskins, Brian Stone, John Ireland and Clive Langdon lost 18-11, while Sam Dunn, Brian Pratt, Geoff Strange and Roger Herbert fell 14-13.

The B team also went down 57-43 against Lyme Regis Seconds.

There was one winning rink in S Dunn, Peter Billett, Mike Stephenson and R Herbert (20-14).

Eric Link, Brian Medland, J Ireland and Bob Seadon were beaten 20-10, while Dan Hoskins, Adam Smith, Geoff Strange and C Langdon held their own until the 13th end (13-13) but lost 23-17.

Bridport were beaten 111-84 by Avon Police and South Petherton 60-58 in friendlies.
