BRIDPORT Gig Rowing Club enjoyed a fantastic day at their home regatta.

Twelve clubs from as far afield as Brixham and Hayling Island competed in the event.

Bridport ladies' B secured the first win of the day for the club, following a nail-biting race to the finish against Weymouth.

Ladies A' then secured a convincing victory in their race, with second places for men’s A, juniors, ladies' vets, men’s vets and the mixed team.

Ladies and men’s C teams and the super vets came in third in their races.

For a number of participants this was the first time they had rowed competitively.

Despite worsening sea conditions as the day progressed, racing continued and the regatta ended in an overall draw between the home team, Bridport and Weymouth.

As a result of ongoing success, Bridport are currently top of the Jurassic League with the next league event in Lyme Regis on Saturday, August 12.

The regatta is a key event in the club’s annual fundraising programme and this year raised a record £2,164.

A spokesman said: "The club would like to thank everyone who helped make the event happen and supported us on the day."
