BRIDPORT Boxing Club have set a date for their annual show, with club chief Alan Slaney urging people to get involved and show their support.

The night of boxing, set for Saturday, November 25, at the Freshwater Holiday Park, is set to once again be organised by Slaney, who has been putting on boxing events in the area for more than 30 years.

But with Slaney understanding some key sponsors may not be available this time round, he has issued a call for local organisations to back the event.

The club’s head coach and chairman said: “People said on our last show that they wanted to help the club out financially. I would like those people to get in touch.

“It is rather urgent now.

“To put on a big show you are talking a few thousand quid and we are hoping to get the big teams down again.

“We normally go for about 15 or 16 bouts and, if we get that, we are happy.

“If new sponsors would like to get involved with an advert in the programme or sponsoring a contest, or they want a table on the night, then please let us know.”

Asked how much the show meant to him, the Bridport chief replied: “It’s everything to the club. All the sponsors we have had have been fantastic over the years.

“We have been going for more than 30 years now. I was the one who started it off.

“I have a lot of help and I am very grateful.”

n Slaney is also encouraging all boxers, old and new to get back in the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the club at Bridport Youth centre.
