JOHN White, a member of Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club, has won the Seniors Championship at the prestigious Remedy Oak Golf Club.

White, who is connected to both Dorset clubs, competed in a strong field in testing conditions.

He carded a sublime gross score of three-over-par 75 despite recording a double bogey six on the first hole.

However, a string of birdies on the back nine ensured a nett score of 67, his best round at the course and a comfortable victory by four shots.

White, who is the Dorset County Golf president, said: “The double bogey at the first didn’t help!

“After having tied last year but lost on countback it was very pleasing to have actually won this year. It was one of those days when the putts just kept dropping.”

White, who lives in West Milton, spends much of his time watching and supporting the Dorset teams throughout the season, so it made a real change for him to personally win a trophy.

Speaking about his home club at Bridport, White, who was chairman at the West Dorset Club for around 10 years, added: “I have been a member at Bridport for more than 50 years.

“It’s a lovely golf course and it’s fantastic on top of the cliffs there. It’s a beautiful place.”
