SHERBORNE TOWN 1

BRIDPORT ended a 10-game losing run in emphatic style as they thumped Sherborne Town 5-1 at home.

The Bees had been without a win since December 10, and the result is bound to be a huge weight off the shoulders of the team and management.

The home side got off to a stunning start when Leigh Bailey got across his man to head home following an Andy Martin free-kick.

Sherborne then got a reply when former Dorchester Town man Ben Wood scored a cracking solo effort to make the score 1-1.

But while in previous games the Bees would lose their sting at this point, the side moved up through the gears to put themselves firmly in control.

Martin swung another free-kick into the area and set up a volley for Ed Butcher whose effort was parried to the feet of Mark Salter who tapped home to regain the lead.

This was followed by a goal from Kameron Andrews against his former club, and then Braeden Symes and Butcher, who gave the hosts a 5-1 lead at the interval.

Bridport put together a professional display in the second half to see out the game, and manager Adam Fricker was delighted with the result.

He said: “It was a massive result. We can’t hide away from the fact that it’s been long overdue.

“There was a lot of pressure on me going into the game, not from the football club but from myself because their was an expectation that we should be winning that game.

“I certainly felt some nerves that I haven’t felt for a long time but the lads just proved how much they wanted it, they were delighted and it feels like a massive weight off their shoulders.

“They were superb, the attitude was excellent and they did what they needed to do. Now we need to get our heads straight and get ready for Saturday and replicate the performance.

“We have to knuckle down now and keep doing it until the end of the season.”
